iFortune
Yevgeniy 'Eugene' MedyinskiyThe iFortune, a playful kitchen appliance, is an exercise in critical design meant to inspire reflection on historical trends in the design of kitchen appliances, and the role of computers in our lives. The device reads a "fortune" from the coffee grounds or tea leaves at the bottom of a finished cup of coffee or tea and then washes and stores the cup -- mixing functionality, fun, and low-key spirituality. By presenting its user with an explicitly ambiguous piece of information, the devices calls into question the commonly-held conviction that computerized appliances are precise and unbiased.
