Our group draws on undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students from a variety of departments, notably Information Science, Science & Technology Studies, and Computer Science. We regularly have undergraduate and master’s research opportunities and discussion groups for PhD students. Cornell students may contact Prof. Sengers for information about current opportunities.

We do not regularly offer summer internships to students from outside of Cornell. We do not currently have a funded postdoctoral position available.

At the PhD level, Phoebe Sengers primarily advises students in the fields of Information Science and Science & Technology Studies; she sometimes also advises students in Computer Science. If you are interested in PhD study at Cornell, please contact the department most relevant to your application for more information about how to apply. The ideal PhD candidate for our group has a strong independent research vision, interest in critical issues related to technology, and cross-disciplinary skills and interests including some critical / humanist / interpretive orientation. Students who combine this profile with strong design or technical skills are also strongly encouraged to apply.

Letters from prospective students who demonstrate clearly that they know something about what we do are answered with greater alacrity and enthusiasm.
